More than just a pasttime, some gamers may be enticed to pursue esports professionally as a career.

To support this, SCOGA directly organizes and collaborates with partners to bring about
career-focused workshops, with the purpose of raising awareness for the esports ecosystems and the diverse career opportunities it offers.

These workshops could be in the form of standalone workshops from SCOGA, or collaborations with partners such as media corporations to allow the participants to take a deep dive into the industry.

SCOGA ran a workshop on Esports Journalism with Yahoo Singapore. In the workshop, attendees were exposed to the basics of journalism, roles, journalists’ best practices as well as different types of news reporting.

The attendees came from various backgrounds, mostly coming from local polytechnics but also including families attending together.

Out of these attendees, three were chosen by Yahoo as they showed potential and passion; they are currently working closely with Yahoo to assist them in writing articles about the local esports scene.

Participants gained knowledge on the main topics - Understanding Game Design, Video Production for Esports and Staging Esports Events for Entertainment.

SCOGA ran a 3-day workshop on esports with the Republic Polytechnic School of Technology and the Arts, in which the participants gained more knowledge on the main three topics – Understanding Game Design, Video Production for Esports and Staging Esports Events for Entertainment.

For the first module – Understanding Game Design, the module looked into success stories of the most popular esports games, analysing the design and gameplay fundamentals behind them.

Areas such as gameplay mechanics, modes of play and multiplayer dynamics were also covered in the module. The second module, Video Production for Esports, learners are taught to use video production techniques that are frequently used in the production of short-form content used to market and promote Esports activities and personalities.

Finally, for Staging Esports events for Entertainment, there was a heavy emphasis on creating the environment for a ‘live’ Esports competition in order to maximise the excitement of the event visually and sonically, whilst engaging both ‘live’ and virtual audiences.

Throughout this workshop, the participants could experiment with skills that they could apply directly into their line of work and academics.
